If you see cars come to a sudden complete stop in front of you I suggest temporarily disabling ACC(left button)and manually braking.I find the system normally brakes very hard in this situation as I suspect the FCA camera isn't as "long ranged" While using ACC your current gap setting is reflected by the 3 squares next to the car on the left (3 squares for close, 2 for med and no squares for long) Set the speed low to prevent sudden aggressive accelerationĪvoid using it if you're being tailgated,it can hit the brakes suddenly for no reason sometimesĭon't be afraid to override the system, you can resume ACC at any time the radar sees another car(I've resumed it at 2 mph even)

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU USE ACCĪVOID USING IT ON SURFACE STREETS(due to the stopped car thing)! Set the gap between your car and the car in front of you by pushing the middle button.Go faster than the set speed temporarily by hitting the accelerator, you'll see a message on the DIC that says " Gas pedal pushed, cruise braking disabled" (set the current speed by pushing "- SET").Hit "+ RES" or tap the accelerator after the car comes to a complete stop for more than 3 seconds when traffic starts to move again.Hit "+ RES" to increase the speed (hold it down for 5mph/kph increments).Hit "- SET" when your car is going 15mph or above and you see a green car icon(meaning the car is tracking the car in front of you), you'll see a message on the DIC to the tune of "Adaptive Cruise Control set at XX MPH/KPH".Push the Cruise Control button(left button cluster on the steering wheel, button on the right),you'll see the grey speedometer/car logo and "-MPH/KPH" on your DIC.(Bosch iBooster for the brakes, Bosch radar and I suspect a lower end Mobileye camera) How do I use it? Interestingly enough GM chose to use almost all the same parts as Tesla uses for their system. Also given the nature of millimeter wave radar the system can have issues in heavy rain and snow. Radar isn't very good at "seeing" stopped cars, so I suspect the system also uses the forward collision camera to prevent you from hitting cars that suddenly stop. The car uses the millimeter wave radar mounted behind the bowtie to detect how close you are to another car and either applies the brakes or the accelerator. When you hit the cruise control button you see a logo of a speedometer with an arrow pointing at it with a car behind it The front grill has a split section with the Chevy bowtie in it (this is where the radar is)

It must be a later build MY17+ (Rumored to be around July 2016+) Premier with Driver Confidence 1 and 2 In addition, ACC also adds UGN, Forward Automatic Braking (full speed) meaning that your car will prevent a collision at least up to 25mph( thereby awarding the '17 Volt IIHS's TOP SAFETY PICK+ with Superior Front crash prevention) How do I know the car I'm looking at has it?

The coolest part is that the Volt has a full range ACC system, meaning that it will bring your car to a complete stop and when traffic continues, the system will (after hitting RES or the accelerator) disengage the brakes and follow the car in front of you!(while some older ACC systems disengage under 12-25mph) If your commute has heavy stop and go traffic, I would say that it would be well worth your time to consider getting ACC on your new 's relatively cheap (~$500 for the option, ~$1000 for DC1 and 2) and works pretty well for the price. (This is for the wiki that we will be making public soon!)
